Songs for Sabotage Delve into Retro Stylings with ‘CLEAN TRAUMA’

There’s a generous slice of retro elegance in ‘CLEAN TRAUMA’. From dark wave to new wave, passing through 80s high energy stylings, the record is immensely evocative and nuanced, blending emotional guitars with artificial textures and long, misty soundscapes. The creation of talented musicians Lina Sophie and Richey Rose, the album is the latest effort by L.A.-based duo Songs For Sabotage

The pair pivots their songwriting and multi-instrumentalism qualities to craft a slice of luscious yet elegant vintage extravaganza, drenched in modern ‘retrowave’ qualities (think of Molchat Doma). Safe to say we absolutely love it, it’s right up our street. Sophie’s charming and luscious vocals are also to praise, serving the record a generous slice of blissful, spacious harmonies and a distinct emotional charge.

The keen listener will enjoy scouting the album for different energies: take for instance ‘CRINGE’, a high-octane, dance-inducing jewel. A stark contrast to more pensive, pathos-packed episodes, such as ‘FORTRESS’ or ‘DECAY’. Delving into the songwriting process, Lina Sophie explains: “Though we were embracing a sonic change we still wanted to stay true to our songwriting formula, which focuses on two main elements: catchy, memorable hooks and dark, introspective lyrics”.
