Sloe Honey’s Eclectic Debut Album ‘Lovesick’ Deserves Your Attention

Sloe Honey is the stage name of Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, pianist, and self-confessed love addict Melissa Trinchere. Earlier today, her brand new album ‘Lovesick’ was released, and I’ve had it on repeat for a while now. It’s a wonderfully eclectic mix of alternative pop, contemporary soul, indie-folk, and some mesmerizing piano work. Every note and melody seems to have been meticulously crafted to highlight Sloe Honey’s poetic lyrics and emotive tales of heartache, tales that she uses to strengthen her spirit and soul. “My greatest inspiration comes from the heartache of unrequited love,” she says. But also, “the bliss of being in love”.

‘Stuck On You’ is the album’s opener, and it’s a sonically laidback and downtempo tune that sets the tone perfectly. Lyrically, it explores the intricacies of being in love while in a toxic relationship, yet being blinded to the realities by those inescapable love chemicals. The album’s title track then follows and expertly blends elements of classic 80s synth-pop with a soulful, R&B twist – just superb!

‘I’m Not Sorry’ and ‘Torch’ were two more standout songs that resonated with me but, in truth, the entire record deserves your attention. Drawing on inspiration from the likes of Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, and Florence + the Machine, I see very big things in Sloe Honey’s near future!
