Skar de Line Embraces Dark Storytelling in Anthemic Cut ‘The Screen’

We last wrote about London-based creative Skar de Line back in July, celebrating ‘Inside’ as “initiating a journey of reckoning within the darkest corners of one’s consciousness”, a heightened introspective ethos that seems to have become a permanent quality of the Swedish-born, London-based creative. Embracing an increasingly cinematic and melancholic sonic imprint, Skar de Line crafts material that looks inward, reflecting on gloomy experiences and the hypnotic effects of delusion and attraction. ‘The Screen’ is the perfect evidence of that.

Marking the project’s latest effort, the single continues the obscure alt-pop direction of its predecessors, pairing haunting and otherworldly vocals with hard-hitting choruses and the distant memory of a guitar-laden past. This is to say that whichever way you look at it, Skar de Line never discounts its rock’n’roll beginnings, packing his record with explosive energy and gritty flair. Of course, today the project is much more eclectic and kaleidoscopic, but always truthful and authentic. Everything Skar de Line writes and does serves a purpose.

‘The Screen’ was originally written as a sort of dark love story with an obsessive twist. As the Swedish talent explains: “It explores the dark depths between possessiveness, obsession, and self-justification. Reflected through the glow of a small screen, it’s a deep story that walks a thin line between conviction and self-sabotage.” There’s a music video coming on November 20th, stay tuned!
