Sirenglas Unveils Futuristic Darkwave Piece ‘Dance With Me (In Oblivion)’

Describing itself as the meeting point between Berlin’s industrial coldwave and London’s 1980s new wave warmth, Sirenglas seems to have very clear ideas about where the project is headed. A self-proclaimed “AI-human hybrid spectral entity”, the Vancouver-based creative finds comfort and self-expression in darkwave’s gloomy, melancholic territories. While the genre itself is rather fashionable these days, Sirengals manages to provide a relatively fresh take on it still, using decadent, pompous and evocative vocals to escape from the usual lo-fi, dark-tone formula.

‘Dance With Me (In Oblivion)’ is the perfect evidence of it, a vibrant blend between Cocteau Twin’s dream pop/shoegaze imprint, and Molchat Doma’s Soviet-powered murky character. Guitars and drums are hard-hitting and firmly committed to the right riffs, fiercely supporting Sirenglas’ otherworldly, magical vocals. Overall, this is an impressive offering, an interesting record exploring the harsh frontier between tradition and futurism.

Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the track, Sirenglas shares: “The music is a collision of shadowy human emotion and the dispassionate precision of AI, weaving together melancholic melodies, haunting vocals, and pulsating rhythms.” Not only the sonic material is satisfactory, but the overarching concept around it is highly enticing and boundary-pushing.
