Shoegaze/Noise Outfit Undergone Debut with Oblique Single ‘Falling Apart’

Hailing from Poland, shoegaze and post-punk outfit Undergone has recently unveiled their debut effort, ‘Falling Apart’, an electrifying, icy and intense piece with a great deal of rebellious guitars. Taking a closer look at the Polish group, something’s rather familiar: Dawid Bestry is on guitar duties -the reader might remember him from his solo project. Wiktoria Borecka is certainly familiar too, with her otherworldly, ethereal vocals drenched in decadence and cathartic energy.

Kamil Orszulik, Mikołaj Żarski and Alicja Więcław complete the talented lineup. Together, the five shoegaze heroes strive to reach a new level of emotional detachment and quirky introspection, something they seem to be experts in. ‘Falling Apart’ showcases that perfectly. The listening experience is not pure, unfiltered shimmering guitars, but instead includes bumpy sections where the track is taken into rowdy metal and alt-rock influences. In fact, there’s a touch of Deftones in it, a welcome feature that serves to grow the record’s unique character.

Something we appreciate is the way the single develops, gradually raising the intensity and its punchiness. Undergone describe it very well as going from “dream to nightmare”. Speaking about the meaning behind the piece, the Polish group explains: “This is a sonic portrayal of emotional disintegration—immersive, unsettling, and leaving behind an echo long after the final notes fade away.”
