Sérgio Nery Unveils Extensive, Eclectic Album ‘A Normal Idade’

‘A Normal Idade’ is not your average album; in fact, there’s nothing average about it. The latest effort by Portuguese musician Sérgio Nery, the record marks our point of entry into Nery’s expansive artistic universe. A keen guitarist and opera singer, the talented Porto-based figure also dabbles in songwriting and music education, all qualities that make him quite a holistic entity. He breathes and lives music, and ‘A Normal Idade’ is the perfect evidence of that.

Eclectic and evocative, the album doesn’t restrict itself to a particular genre, instead exploring a variety of settings, from elegant pop-rock to roaring indie influences. Horn sections help the tracklist stand out, giving it a kaleidoscopic flair too. Nery’s expansive, precise vocals suggest a vast technical background, as do the carefully contrasted melodies. His guitar playing is measured and potent, never overpowering the bold arrangements, yet not afraid to take the lead when needed.

Moreover, ‘A Normal Idade’ features material written across three decades, making it a striking proof of Sergio’s dedication and commitment to his craft. As he explains: “It is an album of contrasts about reaching a point in life where you realise that growing up is a transformation. Each song is a chapter in this discovery.”
