Despite calling New York his home, Seán Griffin certainly doesn’t hide his Irish heritage. It’s plenty obvious in his music, both as a solo artist and in his previous stint in The Ruffians: a charming blend between roaring punk energy and Celtic/Irish playfulness. Well, embracing his solo dimension, Griffin has recently returned with a brand new offering, ‘People Are Mad’, a heartwarming, euphoric and highly relatable cut.
Built on gentle rock’n’roll and carefree Celtic flair, ‘People Are Mad’ sees Seán deliver a lighthearted take on modern society, especially when it comes to the increasing polarisation of everyone’s opinion. While such a theme is indeed quite deep and relevant, Griffin transforms it into an absolute anthem, with catchy choruses and mellow melodies helping get the message across. Taken from the project’s upcoming album, ‘People Are Mad’ is a statement of intent, and a good one at that.
While the song might appear nihilistic, especially at first, the listener will be glad to see it embrace a more mature view of modern society, focusing on learning not to take everything too seriously. It’s also a way to bring attention to the issue and perhaps spark relevant conversations. ‘People Are Mad’ also comes with a music video, filmed in Seán’s hometown, Kingston, NY.
