A long time in the making, ‘Quicksand’ marks the return of London-based alt-pop creative Sarah Krimson. Following up on her 2023 EP ‘Urban Melancholia’, the single sees her getting back to what she does best: brooding, introspective pieces with a heightened sense of pensive lyricism and gloomy sonic character. Anticipating Krimson’s upcoming album ‘Raw/War’, ‘Quicksand’ takes a hard look at the lack of authenticity and purpose, an experience that led Sarah out of a tedious job and into a more sustainable, wholesome era.
Yet, the past is not just a bunch of scary, painful memories; it also provides fertile ground for relatable and meaningful songwriting. ‘Quicksand’ is the perfect evidence of that. Wrapped into hard-hitting, alt-flavoured pop goodness (with a hint of alt-rock and emo, to be completely fair), the single perfectly matches Krimson’s striking, dark aesthetic and her cathartic creative ethos.
Delving deeper into her record, Sarah explains: “I was trapped in a job far removed from my passion for music. The song captures the emotional toll of self-doubt, burnout, and the feeling of being invisible — even to yourself. It’s about the moment you wake up from the lie that you have to earn the right to follow your calling, and instead, choose yourself.”
