SANTA ANA Unveils Haunting, Purposeful Album ‘VAGÍO DEL 62’

Moving across Andalusian Rock and Flamenco influences, SANTA ANA crafts a magical collection of songs, material that feels almost spiritual, certainly haunting in its overall delivery.

One of the most peculiar and kaleidoscopic records we have heard to date, ‘VAGÍO DEL 62’ marks the latest offering by Andalusian songstress SANTA ANA. Moving across Andalusian Rock and Flamenco influences, the talented creative crafts a magical collection of songs, material that feels almost spiritual, certainly haunting in its overall delivery. Behind the project, we find gifted musician Marta Franco (Cabra, Córdoba).

‘VAGÍO DEL 62’ is not just a body of musical work, but instead finds its powerful drive in SANTA ANA’s critical look at how society constantly keeps women subjugated. Yet, she’s also positive about women’s ability to rise up, recognising how Generation X was able to do exactly that. In fact, Ana’s own mothers fought for liberties that at the time were not a given. The record celebrates sisterhood in all of its forms, but most of all in its timeless, relentless force.

Delving deeper into the meaningful philosophical ethos that propels the album, we are told: “It was born from the need to confront the place women occupy in society. The album holds two ideas in tension: the determination with which a patriarchal system has tried to keep women in a position of subordination, and the courage with which they have risen, again and again, throughout history. Its thesis is simple: when a woman exercises her self-determination, scrutiny follows, and with it, guilt.”
