We have already spoken at length about the way Sansha manages to blend music and comedy into a holistic, witty practice that entices even the most apathetic listeners out there. Writing about ‘Songs About Boys Lol’ earlier this year, we celebrated the album as “a wealth of linear and relatable storytelling, catchy material that’s made to fit into Sansha’s expansive live shows”. The record also marked the end of a chapter, one focused on the London-based trobairitz’s humorous experience in the modern dating landscape.
‘Mr Dinosad’, out today, is instead the beginning of something new. As the snow melts and the days get longer, Sansha gets creative again, embarking on what she calls ‘The Jester She Sings’ EP, a concept album that sees the British artist embody a fictional court jester who is on the run. The new single acts as an intriguing introduction to such a peculiar saga, showcasing once again Sansha’s affinity for material that’s light-hearted on the surface, yet complex under the hood.
For reference, ‘Mr Dinosad’ draws inspiration from the talented South Londoner feeling like a ‘sad clown’ during a prolonged time caring for someone who she could not cheer up. As such, the track is not so much a comedy piece, more of a pop nugget hiding bittersweet melancholy (but isn’t that what comedy is about, anyway?). This time around, Sansha has teamed up with producer Jonny Ellis (whom she originally met on the dating app Hinge), with further lyrical help from longtime friend and musician Gecko.
