A rather unconventional artist, London-based comedian and songstress Sansha has carved out a unique creative space for herself, a place steeped in playfulness and authenticity, but also in elegance and orchestral allure. ‘Songs About Boys Lol’ is the perfect evidence of that: alongside luscious, classical-flavoured arrangements, we find a wealth of linear and relatable storytelling, catchy material that’s made to fit into Sansha’s expansive live shows, where she gracefully blends comedy and music.
Taking a cue from the British artist’s own upbringing, ‘Songs About Boys Lol’ takes a step back from the project’s previous creative direction, swapping fringe bedroom electronica for charming violins, warm pianos, acoustic guitars, and light percussive beats. As mentioned, the production behind the record is elegant and quite dreamy, beautifully contrasting with the songs’ compact form and bite-sized nature, here meant to be enjoyed as short, quirky tales drawn from Sansha’s personal experience.

That’s what’s most beautiful about the album: ‘Songs About Boys Lol’ is without doubt an immediate and welcoming record, sparking a ‘simple’ listening experience, if you will. Yet, it’s also the arrival point of a long and committed artistic journey, one that took Sansha from her beginning as a keen musician to the eclectic and committed creative she is today. The album’s simplicity is, of course, fictitious. There’s nothing plain and obvious about it. It’s beautifully written, deeply expressive, and a perfect example of Sansha’s observant and inquisitive personality.
Delving deeper into her work, Sansha explains: “I went back to my roots, which is making songs on the piano. I then recorded the songs live in a studio, playing and singing at the same time, then adding my violins after.”
