Gearing up for an upcoming album, Saint Nick the Lesser has recently unveiled the last piece of the puzzle, a meaningful and poignant single built on gentle folk tones and wholesome acoustic matter. Titled ‘21 Minutes’, the song takes us into the American troubadour’s vivid, striking storytelling, this time narrating a fictional suicide attempt and an empowering saga of change and resilience. Balancing light and darkness, Saint Nick the Lesser pens a nugget of bittersweet melancholia.
Oscillating between pain and beauty, ‘21 Minutes’ provides a stark look at the many forces that can affect our life experience, and the emotional roller coaster that often comes with them. Speaking in more nuance about the record, the Upland-based creative explains: “This song is the apex of both who I am, and what I’m about as an artist: the communication of the inherent worth in all of us, the excruciating beauty, the unbearable pain on the road to catharsis, every karmic cycle of birth, death, and re-birth which all point to the inexorable conclusion: it’s worth it.”
It’s obvious how Saint Nick the Lesser likes to draw from personal dealings, in order to build a relatable and authentic offering for his listeners. In fact, such a quality is well-mirrored in ‘21 Minutes’ aural energy, managing to offer a heartwarming Folk and Americana character despite the partly fractured lyricism.
