Crowning her comeback year, fierce songstress Sabina Beyli has recently returned with ‘Bad Habits’, a slice of brooding alt-rock euphoria, a dark, gloomy and intense cut that feels as introspective as it is destructive and expansive. Following up on the project’s previous effort, ‘Crave The Burn’, ‘Bad Habits’ sees Beyli flourishing on the same theme, unfurling a stream of eerie lyricism and gritty, potent guitar riffs. It’s a listening experience that’s not easy to forget.
We should know: Sabina’s hard-hitting character truly impressed us, echoing timeless icons such as Evanescence and Lacuna Coil, alongside modern players such as Amira Elfeky, among others. Next to its sombre melancholia, ‘Bad Habits’ also delivers unrestrained instrumental goodness, with expert production by Mike Midura (Ok Goodnight, Rilena) and the co-writing help of longtime collaborator Kate J. Brink (Charlie Weld, Bella Demita). No wonder the record turned out so good!
Rather self-explanatory, ‘Bad Habits’ matches its aural contour on a lyrical level too. Delving into the deepest corner of the human experience, Beyli seeks to uncover the many ways people sabotage themselves, often ending up in toxic cycles of attraction and pain. As Sabina eloquently explains: “Sometimes we fall back into the very things we swore we’d outgrow. It’s messy, it’s human, and it’s honest.”
