A collection of Future House and EDM gems, ‘GIRLTRAP’ has been long in the making. The result of years of hard work and dedication to the craft, the EP also signals s1ms’ eclectic and nuanced musicianship, perfectly at home with glitchy, bombastic electronica and broken rhythms. Featuring 13 intense and diverse pieces, the record pairs evocative female vocals with s1ms’ imaginative production style, making for a dreamy, ethereal EP that’s rewarding and cathartic.
Speaking about the circumstances around the record, the Denver-based creative explains: “Production and music have always been a significant internal struggle, as I’m sure other producers can relate to. I grew up classically trained on piano and drums, and moved over to my production aspirations around the age of 15. I did not release a track until late 2024, when I was 25.”
We suspect that a lot of artists out there will mirror themselves in s1ms’ words, as perfection is not always a creative’s best friend. Instead, it can lead to self-doubt and procrastination. On the other hand, good things take time, and ‘GIRLTRAP’ was certainly worth the wait.
