Marking the first act of a seemingly long creative journey, ‘sun & moon’ uncovers a wealth of evocative lyricism and contemporary pop prowess that’s hard to reckon with. Behind such a masterpiece, we find mysterious Canadian songstress Rikki Lumi. While we don’t have much information about her, she likes to present the project as an interstellar traveller from Venus who arrived on Earth with the intention of working through hidden emotions and introspective thoughts.
Beyond Lumi’s world-building efforts, it’s important to notice that ‘sun & moon’ is actually a really great record, a fantastic pop single that pushes even further into slightly alternative and fringe territories. We love it! Catchy and relatable, it’s bound to appeal equally to the dreamy, hazy and escapism-driven crowd as much as it will to the more songwriting-focused folks.
Delving deeper into the single and her upcoming album, Rikki Lumi explains: “Every song and idea in this upcoming album was brought to life in a different way. For ‘sun & moon’, I was really inspired by admiring people from afar. I wrote it about comparing yourself to others—but not in a way that tears you down. I wanted to acknowledge that sometimes things don’t end up the way you hoped, and it isn’t always your fault. Or… maybe it could be” – as previously told to Rival Magazine.
