REPTYLE Return with Gloomy, Obscure Goth Album ‘Blazed Shades & Thorned Veils’

Dark, gloomy and intense; that’s how we like our goth-rock (and how it should always be, regardless of personal preferences). ‘Blazed Shades & Thorned Veils’ does exactly that, offering a world of melancholic guitars and rowdy drum grooves on a silver, mool-lit aural plate. Packing thirteen tracks and a great deal of hypnotic flair, the record marks the return of REPTYLE, Germany-based goth outfit with a longstanding history of successful records behind them. Active since 1998, the Bielefeld-based group offers a sound that’s incredibly authentic and evocative, taking us back to the glory days of the new wave/goth movement.

In fact, ‘Blazed Shades & Thorned Veils’ sounds obscure, introspective and gritty, the perfect formula for an album that seeks to celebrate the past while looking ahead. You see, REPTYLE have on this occasion reunited with founder and keyboardist Andres ‘Jufi’ Schulze, almost closing a circle, the band now getting back to their roots. What follows is a stream of highly expressive and cathartic sonic matter, the perfect balance between heightened melancholia and relatable melodies.

‘Blazed Shades & Thorned Veils’ is not an obscure record per sé; in fact, the album flourishes on REPTYLE’s anthemic, raw vocals and heartfelt songwriting. That said, its overall gloomy character adds a certain modern quality to it, making for a piece of art that perfectly fits our decadent, uncertain times.
