Repeat Take a Hard Look at Our Reality in ‘Nothing New’

We were writing about Swedish punk outfit Repeat merely a month ago, declaring their effort ‘Celebrate’ as “threading once again into fast-paced, furious and hard-hitting punk territories”. We stand by our words; that seems to be the formula the group swears by in 2025. ‘Nothing New’ reiterates it, offering another cutthroat, roaring piece that’s punchy and charismatic. There’s a lo-fi ethos in it too, an overall distorted quality making the record even more wholesome and relatable.

Recorded with Joakim Lindberg at Studio Sickan, Malmö, ‘Nothing New’ showcases Repeat’s relentless rebellious flair, a sign that true punk loyalty doesn’t fade with age. Perhaps it’s the opposite, as we all become wiser, we also become more aware of society’s dooming pitfalls. Our willingness to fight and change then becomes louder. ‘Nothing New’ certainly caters to this idea, enjoying a great deal of inspired lyricism.

As Repeart explain: “The song is about that feeling when everything starts to sound like recycled noise – politics, media, even music. ‘Nothing New’ is our way of breaking free. Angry but honest. We didn’t want to overthink it – just hit record and let it out.” Look out for the group’s upcoming EP, expected later this year.
