A talented duo focused on electronic music production and visual FX, Red Mercury threads the fine line between cinematic allure and club-oriented prowess, delivering a high-octane, anthemic and evocative cut alongside a striking sci-fi short film. Hailing from London, Steve Gregory and Isobel Crawford had a specific idea in mind: celebrating five years of activity in style. Furthermore, they just so happen to have reached their tenth release ever.
‘I Still Remain’ is all of that and more; an exercise in musical prowess and visual creativity, the record embarks on fierce and digitally-driven D&B and dubstep territories. There’s a high degree of human craft in it, with Gregory going out of his way to produce the majority of the sound design on a large analogue modular synth system, giving the final result a truly dystopian and researched feel. Crawford does a good job on vocals and lyrics, wrapping listeners into a lush, elegant and cathartic listening experience.
‘I Still Remain’ is released alongside a short film, an interesting and futuristic take on sci-fi virtual production techniques. As Red Mercury explain: “We wanted to do something really special, so we spent 9 months making a short film to go with this release. We used the most advanced technology, including virtual production, camera tracking, 3D visualisation, and live action integration. We wanted to push the boundaries of production to make something very special.”
