A three-dimensional, striking album, ‘True Stories… And Other Lies’ pushes the boundaries of prog rock in a positive, eclectic way. You see, while its overall references benefit from a deep dive into luscious, virtuoso rock territories, the album’s overall formula retains a certain surprise and uniqueness, with jazz-flavoured harmonies and cinematic sound design helping the record stand out further. A flurry of distorted guitar solos accompanies the seven episodes that make ‘True Stories… And Other Lies’ such a powerful effort.
Behind such sonic goodness, we find Parisian outfit Pryzme. Following up on their 2021 LP ‘Four Inches’, the group seems to have found a new lease of life, perhaps thanks to the addition of new members Lucas Planque on drums and Benoît Toquet on bass. Originally founded in 2014 with the moniker Lingus, the band appears to be constantly evolving, a positive sign showcasing their creative hunger.
Delving deeper into the ethos behind the album, Pryzme explains: “It explores themes as wide-ranging as ecology, anger, and the need for recognition. Through long tracks structured like sonic waves, the album offers a true emotional journey, from inner rage to rediscovered light.” Our favourite track: ‘Green Eyes’.
