An ever-evolving young creative, Piper Connolly has so far been navigating a variety of musical territories; take, for instance, the fierce pop-punk shores of ‘warning’, or the euphoric, catchy indie-pop vibes of ‘kiss like me’. The American talent appears to be constantly on the move, something that makes a lot of sense when one remembers that Connolly is effectively entering her teenage era, a time of profound change and personal reckoning. From that perspective, it’s not a surprise to observe Piper embracing a bolder, louder hyper-pop and EDM persona, under the moniker GLITCHGIRL.EXE.
In fact, she’s got big plans with it, and they are already in motion. ‘GLITCHGIRL.EXE’ is also the title of Connolly’s latest EP, an euphoric, kaleidoscopic record collecting a series of EDM remixes from her catalogue of existing songs. ‘twisted play’ open the dances in true club-ready fashion, with Xander Milne on production duties. ‘chameleon’ instead focuses on party-ready mainstream pop, with Piper’s vocals treated to vocoder-like effects and a global popstar flair (courtesy of hi5).
‘kiss like me’ is perhaps one of the most unique remixes in the EP. Penned by Calibeats, the track completely reimagines the original source, delving into quirky electronica and robotic vocals. hi5 then returns in ‘welcome back girl’, blending evocative, hyper-pop-esque sections to gritty drum & bass drops. Speaking about the new release, Connolly explains: “I just felt like it was time to shake things up. GLITCHGIRL.EXE is kind of the chaotic, louder version of me—the part that lives in late-night group chats and glitchy playlists and crazy edits.”
