We teased Pictureplane’s upcoming album ‘Sex Distortion’ earlier this month, celebrating single ‘Dream Machine’ as “a hazy, feverish blend of italo-disco and soviet-wave”. We are happy to report that another piece of the puzzle has now been released to the outer world, ‘Night Falls’. In anticipation of the album drop on October 31st via Music Website, the new track embraces a nocturne, synthwave-driven ethos, with a great deal of arpeggiated synths providing a perfect sonic foundation for Pictureplane’s haunting, deep vocals.
Hailing from Brooklyn, the New York City creative has long explored such dark and melancholic territories, finding a worthy refuge in dark/new wave, nostalgic synth pop and leftfield indie matter. Yet, the project never comes across as particularly intricate or pompous, instead delivering introspective, relatable lyricism on top of uplifting and intense production. It’s just all soaked into a sombre, gloomy texture.
