Paulo and the Problems Return with Elegant and Luscious Jewel ‘Summer Rain’

The keen reader will certainly remember American outfit Paulo and the Problems. Writing about ‘First of the Month’ just over a month ago, we proudly declared the record as “doing a good job of oscillating between elegant nostalgia and contemporary energy”. We stand by our words: the project seems to flourish on eclectic tones and feel-good vibes, yet never settles on a one-dimensional, specific formula. Latest effort ‘Summer Rain’ is the perfect evidence of that. Built on soulful R&B flair and elegant soul-rock elements, the record takes a more evocative path, one that’s nevertheless groovy and vibrant.

Out now via Fogwood Records, ‘Summer Rain’ sees Paulo Ward teaming up with longtime collaborator Mekfly, penning a wonderfully meaningful piece of music that does a good job of exploring romantic territories and hidden introspection, a quality that fits the track’s aural character very well. Part elegant and part lush, ‘Summer Rain’ develops on luscious, powerful vocal melodies and harmonies, only matched by the Santana-esque guitar solo, quite nostalgic yet always relevant and wholesome.

Driving at full throttle towards their upcoming album ‘Stupid Sexy Paulo’, Paulo and the Problems seem to have struck sonic gold. Time will tell what the future holds for them, but one thing is certain: their music is always a worthy discovery. ‘Summer Rain’ is “the second instalment in the animated visual series featuring the band’s mascot, Nico, adding a visual storyline to the album rollout.”
