We wrote about Paul Fox earlier this year, highlighting his collaboration with Brazilian legend Jhayam in ‘Better Living (Viver Melhor)’, a single we described as a “laidback, dancehall anthem, a positive and vibrant piece striving for a better world”. Well, speaking about laidback and vibrant records, they appear to be one of Fox’s signature moves. ‘Champion’ is the strongest evidence of that; the British producer’s latest effort, the single sees him teaming up with his own daughter, Eleanor Fox, and Kenyan artist Charlie Flexx.
This time around, Fox delves into modern Afrobeat tones, crafting a groovy, carefree and rhythmically engaging instrumental, one packed with international appeal and evocative melodies. Flexx’s vocals are the perfect match for such an anthemic piece, delivering a stream of catchy hooks and relatable, empowering lyricism. Eleanor’s treble voice builds a playful contrast with the rest of the sonic matter.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Champion’, the Southampton-based creative explains: “I love collaborating with other artists and to be able to work with my daughter again is a total pleasure. I have done several tracks with Charlie Flexx, and I like his modern sound and will definitely work with him again in the future.”
