A celebrated pianist and songwriter, Patti Zlaket is the sort of hidden gem that we take pride in discovering. To be fair, the label ‘hidden gem’ fits her rather loosely, as she enjoyed a successful career over the past three decades. Yet, her audience is set to expand even further, with Meridian label (ECR Music Group) picking up her three albums for a series of remastered reissues. After 1994’s ‘The Promise’ being re-released in February, Zlaket now unveils the next one on the menu, 2001’s ‘Bliss’.
It will all then resolve into her new album, expected sometime next year. It’s a truly elegant and meaningful reckoning for the talented American songstress and musician, who now sees her burgeoning and eclectic career recognised and celebrated. Zlaket’s songwriting is impressive, and it doesn’t refrain from changing sonic references and style. From rich, soulful-filled pieces to guitar-based acoustic gems, even passing through boundary-pushing, experimental episodes (the title track is a good example of that).
The record also carries two bonus tracks, ‘Fractured Fairy Tales’ and ‘One More Time’. Speaking about the album and what such an experience means to her, Patti explains: “The coalescing of my career with these reissues is incredibly meaningful to me. Not only do they set the stage for my new record, they bring together—in one place—the story and the music that’s brought me to this exciting moment.”
