Despite its six-minute length, ‘A Day Before’ shouldn’t scare you. It’s actually a rather tender and introspective piece, a nostalgic, reflective cut yearning for an overarching philosophical take centred around the passing of time, and the many ways we make it count. Spearheaded by British outfit Paid By Cash, the track stands out from the crowd as a heartfelt, complex single, especially in its musical character. Introduced by a gentle, melancholic section, ‘A Day Before’ slowly but surely evolves and grows, eventually exploding into more anthemic and distorted sections.
That alone marks the project as unique and authentic. You see, Paid by Cash don’t appear to be following an established formula or a popular trend, instead finding a worthy artistic refuge in personal and unique material. Hailing from the North of England, the group features Ollie, Sam, Harry, Sam, Vince, and Toby, all working together towards a shared goal. Being such a numerous lineup, it’s also an important factor when it comes to the band’s sonic impact, which is overall pretty intense.
‘A Day Before’ involved producer Tom Orrell, helping Paid By Cash reach a satisfactory result, truly sculpting the wonky blend of alt-rock and kinder indie behind the project. About the record, the British group explain: “This release has to be our most significant yet. We have finished our live shows with this song for the past 2 years, and we’ve been asked when we are releasing it at each show. The enthralling dynamics and ginormous outro with gang vocals make this track our best.”
