Ola Bird Reacts to Unrequited Love in ‘Friendship Wall’

Embracing her English lyrics era, Berlin-based songstress Ola Bird has today returned with ‘Friendship Wall’, a haunting, poignant and anthemic piece that also shines a light on why such a ‘new era’ was needed. Having recently left Poland, where she successfully developed her indie-alternative band Älskar, Bird now finds herself at a crossroads; hoping to forget unrequited love, she finds a worthy refuge in an eclectic blend of dreamy pop tones, soulful R&B and buoyant rock elements.

‘Friendship Wall’ is the strongest evidence of that. Introduced by sultry vocals and slow-paced grooves, the record also achieves a certain cinematic prowess, mainly manifesting in the gloomy textures and the luscious, elegant melodies. The listening experience is rather euphoric, although in a melancholic way. If you happen to be in romantic turmoil, ‘Friendship Wall’ will greatly cater to that.

Gearing up for an upcoming EP, ‘Singles for Singles’, Ola Bird has once again struck sonic gold. Looking forward to seeing her grow further. Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, she explains: “I wrote this song a few months ago for a person that I have been in love with for over 3 years. Due to a shared project, we’ve been seeing each other almost every week, and each interaction made me just fall deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole. But all these years, he’s been with someone else, so I was trying to suppress my feelings and never showed anything. This year, I decided to move to Berlin and start over from scratch.”
