Oedipus Triple Rex wins the title of most unconventional hardcore band to visit our pages. Hailing from New York City, the gritty, euphoric, guitar-powered outfit collects a curious lineup of five respectable citizens who completely transform once they step on a stage. In it, we find clinical psychoanalyst Dr Mark B. Borg Jr and dentist Dr Rob Lipschutz, among others, all sharing a longstanding experience in the local independent music scene. ‘Soon-In Geological Time’ is the group’s latest single.
From a sonic standpoint, ‘Soon-In Geological Time’ feels incredibly furious and hard-hitting, a one-minute thunderstorm that completely hypnotises the listeners from the first note. There’s no introduction, no waste of any time… Oedipus Triple Rex jump instantly with both feet into one of the most raucous hardcore records we have ever heard. We suspect the track to be quite cathartic, in its outward effects, allowing us all to experience 70 seconds of pure rage, a precious quality in these trying times.
Delving deeper into the record’s explosive and chaotic ethos, Oedipus Triple Rex explains: “It was born from the collision of personal demons, existential dread, and a world seemingly perpetually at war with itself. It explores the paradox of time, how suffering can make a moment feel like eternity, while entire lifetimes vanish in a flash. Rooted in our hardcore punk philosophy of questioning everything, confronting uncomfortable truths, and embracing chaos.”
