Nicole Saphos Unveils Eclectic Full Album ‘Figure Eights’

We knew it was approaching, we didn’t know it would blow us away completely. Nicole Saphos’ latest album ‘Figure Eights’ is finally out, a glorious milestone after having followed her for the last few months. Writing about ‘More’, we proudly declared: “what makes the track stand out is the soulfulness of Saphos’ vocals: light and airy, capable of conveying meaningful lyrical messages with nonchalance and magnetising charm.”

‘Figure Eights’ continues on those premises, making eclecticism its keyword. Balanced over folk, rock and jazz influences, the record is a unique manifest of Saphos’ artistry, a peek into her musically rich and magnetising creative universe. Inspired by memories of her childhood and the patterns that have shaped her life, Nicole weaves together a tapestry of musical styles and influences that is both bold and innovative.

The album opens with ‘Spend a Little Time’, instantly drawing the listener into its sonic imprint. The contrast between Saphos’ relatable and friendly vocals and the more complex instrumental material is quite evocative, especially when coming across fusion/jazz guitar solos and free-form drum patterns. ‘And Only’ lets in on more straight and conventional arrangements, although with a certain minimalistic flair: bass and drums carry the track forward.

‘Stoic Companion’ is another interesting offering, blending soothing, indie tones with intricate rhythms and sudden changes. It will be clear by now, ‘Figure Eights’ is a journey that needs to be discovered personally.
