If you ever find yourself at a crossroads – or perhaps in a rough patch, ‘Solstice Sun’ is the song you should turn to. Crepuscular and cathartic, the piece is sonically heartwarming and engaging, with an elegant, gentle instrumental allure that well matches the lyrical wisdom delivered by Nick Byrne and Tom Symmonds. Focusing on the cycles of life, ‘Solstice Sun’ takes inspiration from seasonal changes, reminding everyone that life is continuously developing, and that things will, inevitably, change.
So if you are struggling, know this: a new season is on the horizon. You just have to be willing to accept it with open arms. The British troubadours present this concept in a lush, hazy manner, with their stunning vocals holding listeners in a warm aural embrace. A work in progress, the seeds for ‘Solstice Sun’ were first planted in 2021 amid the pandemic lockdowns. Finding fertile common ground, Byrne and Symmonds were then able to collaborate heavily and pen an absolute wonder of a song.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Solstice Sun’, Byrne explains: “‘Solstice Sun’ walks you through the cycle of the seasons, but it’s constructed using some memories, like spending a summer’s night on the beach, and other more abstract, imagined scenes. For me, songs about nature instantly immerse us in a specific place as well as help make us feel connected – both to the natural world and each other, making us feel less alone.”
