Taken at face value, ‘Golden Blinds’ feels like a comfy record, at least in its sonic character. Built over playful indie tones and dreamy textures, the single feels a touch lo-fi, with a gentle drum machine perfectly matching the overarching hazy synthetisers and the ever-evolving vocal effects. Penned by Swiss duo Namaka, ‘Golden Blinds’ is taken from the project’s upcoming album ‘Cloudspotting’, expected on September 5th via Swiss label Mouthwatering Records.
If the current single is anything to go by, we are in for some incredibly buoyant and vivid material. You see, ‘Golden Blinds’ has been captured through a tape recorder and a laptop, exactly like the rest of the album. This gives the track a rather warm feel, a sense of nostalgia well-balanced by contemporary dreaminess and introspective lyricism.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Namaka explain: “It’s a song about the duality behind narcissistic personalities – often captivating those around them, yet ultimately destructive in their constant need for external validation.”
