My Life As A Moth Returns with Anxiety-Ridden Dark Cut ‘Time Thief’

Known for her striking alternative outlook and aural eclecticism, My Life As A Moth is a creative entity that’s hardly contained in a single genre box. Constantly moving on the fringes and drawing from a variety of sources and influences, the London-based songstress has familiarised herself with the unconventional; from her kaleidoscopic productions encompassing pop, folk, electronica, and rock, to her jagged and often otherworldly lyrical imagery; everything points towards My Life As A Moth’s boundary-pushing artistry.

Following up on last year’s album ‘Miss Queenie’s Jamboree’, My Life As A Moth has recently returned with ‘Time Thief’, a gloomy, decadent and rather complex single anticipating a brand new LP, ‘The Parade Of The Starlet & The Broken Hearted’. It’s safe to say that the project turns its attention to darker, fiercer territories, embracing a great deal of gritty guitar tones and detuned distortions. At times it’s an alt-rock record, at others it morphs into an obscure, Morphine-esque saxophone-driven effort.

And that’s just the aural side of it. From a lyrical standpoint, ‘Time Thief’ navigates the creepy and unrequited corners of anxiety, and the many ways it can bend one’s perception of time. As My Life As A Moth eloquently explains: “Anxiety often puts you into a negative spiral which feels like a time thief. You’re existing in that timeline at the same time, grieving another reality that you could be thriving in”
