We have been following My Life As A Moth on and off for the past couple of years. The London-based chameleon moves and evolves in unexpected ways, and everything seems to be fair game for her wide-ranging, eclectic artistry. Mesmerized last wrote about the project in September 2025, when ‘Time Thief’ initiated the unravelling of a new album cycle, one that’s coming to fruition this April 17th. ‘The Parade of the Starlet & The Broken Hearted’ is a fitting title for a record that will no doubt surprise everyone. Another piece of the puzzle was revealed in October, the organic, jazz-leaning, fusion masterpiece ‘Hyenas’.
A subsequent radio silence took My Life As A Moth through the holidays, at least until January 9th. That’s when the Swedish-born creative shared ‘Starlet City’ with us all, a cosmic new wave jewel steeped in 70s euphoria and avant-garde allure. It’s a really great tune, an aural mirage, the project’s creative zenith so far, at least in our opinion. The sonic references bring Gary Newman and Tubeway Army to mind, but there are a lot of influences in there: from hints of Kraftwerk and early Human League to icy post-punk flair and modern leftfield electronica. We are big fans of the vocal processing in the hook, a feature that makes the listening experience truly euphoric and luscious.

An accompanying music video does a good job of illustrating the record’s keen, chaotic lyricism, a sign that My Life As A Moth is equally striking in its production as in its overall imagery. As we are told: “The track is inspired by the contrasting glitz and grime that comes with pursuing art in the big city. The ‘starlet’ is a muse in its more traditional sense, but also interpreted as the alluring, extraterrestrial glimmer that comes from the fabric of the artistic, sensitive but very robust soul.”
Alongside My Life As A Moth herself, ‘Starlet City’ benefits from the extended collaboration with Keir Adamson and Ellie Mason (Voka Gentle).
