‘Broken Drum’ will appeal to a wide audience out there. While fundamentally building its identity upon the British indie scene, it also enjoys a heavier sonic palette, and a rather fuzzy one in this case. Meet MUTE TV, Bath-based trio with a keen eye for slick guitar riffs and rolling drums. Out now via Medical Grade Music, ‘Broken Drum’ is a slap in the face, a short yet impactful banger with a dark twist.
The record has been recorded live, with MUTE TV performing in the same room. This goes a long way in preserving the natural energy that emerges from a collective performance. Behind its electrifying facade, ‘Broken Drum’ hides a meaningful lyrical layer, exploring the highs and lows of relationships and the emotional difficulties that come with it. MUTE TV are Tim James (lead vocals, bass), Joe Mountain (guitar, vocals), and Ade Poole (drums, vocals). You can catch them on a few Bath shows in the next three months.
Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the song, MUTE TV explain: “The song is about how we have a lot of relationships in life. Some are more important than others, but none of them are easy. We recorded the track with Chris Ellul from The Heavy at their studio, wanting to capture it as close as possible to how it feels when we play it live. There’s a certain energy that comes from the three of us playing together at the same time that we didn’t want to lose.”
