MothBreath Unveil Vulnerable, Emotive Cut ‘Misty Blue’

We last wrote about British dreamy outfit MothBreath back in the summer, celebrating ‘Weightless Words’ as building an “unmistakably hazy, feverish aural universe”. We stand by our statement, and in truth, such a description has become a bit of a general brand for the Frome-based duo. Constantly oscillating between shoegaze, dream pop and the occasional new wave flavourings, MothBreath champions anything spacious, lush and ethereal, promoting an overall artistry that is deeply committed to escapism.

‘Misty Blue’ confirms it all, while adding a touch of melancholia and heartwarming emotional release. Perfectly tuned with the upcoming winter season, the track moves slowly and with gravitas, carrying a great deal of songwriting wisdom against an evocative and introspective production, full of cinematic textures and anthemic melodies. On this occasion, ‘Misty Blue’ feels quite synth-pop in its orientation, boasting a solid, punchy drum sound and a bright array of synthetic textures.

Kirsty Dougall’s charming vocals deliver a tale of temporary sadness and emotive comfort. As the talented singer and musician explains: “Misty Blue was inspired by floating in the ocean one time, feeling really down and realising, though completely immersed, I was being totally supported and soothed by it. Hopefully, we’ve captured that feeling of intense sadness mixed with hope. The dark and the light”. John Libert completes the duo’s lineup.
