Moletrap Celebrate Their Welsh Homeland in Rapturous New EP

Moletrap have something loud to say about Wales. More specifically, about Mid-Wales. Hailing from a quaint Cambrian village, the three amigos have known each other since high school. Getting taught Welsh back then didn’t sit quite right with them, as they strived for a more global outlook. Yet, years later, Moletrap have developed a keen love for their homeland, assuming a historical and political perspective that greatly surfaces in their sharp, rapturous alt-rock imprint.

‘Mid Welsh, Pt. 1’ is the perfect evidence of it. Built on explosive and rowdy guitar-powered matter, the EP sees Moletrap do what they do best: writing rock anthems with meaningful and critical lyricism. Appreciating the Welsh beauty around them, the talented group affirms their deep-rooted identities and the challenges faced by their land, playfully contrasting their music’s chaotic, fast-paced character with Wales’ soothing, solitary and mountainous ethos.

Partly funded by BBC Horizons/Gorwelion, ‘Mid/Welsh, Pt. 1’ is a refreshing display of potent alt-rock with crucial, relatable songwriting. If distorted guitars are not always your jam, check out ‘Nation of Sanctuary’, a partially groovy and poppier effort with a heightened eclectic flair. Of course, you still get the wall-shaking choruses, but that’s just Moletrap. Delving deeper into the record, they explain: “We want to promote the Welsh language and connect people at our gigs to our area’s expansive, wild freedom. We sing, in Welsh and English, about the history, places, people, progress, nature and folklore in the area.”
