The reader will certainly remember San Francisco-based songstress Michellar. Writing about ‘Game of Love’ back in November, we proudly celebrated the record as “a journey through love and attraction, here envisioned with a certain playfulness and positive flair”… we stand by our words. In fact, everything that Michellar writes tends to evoke a particular emotion or relatable scenario; while she does enjoy a certain eclecticism in terms of genre hopping, her songwriting remains meaningful and purposeful. ‘Do We Love Us’ is the perfect example of that.
Marking Michellar’s latest effort, the new single is once again a collaboration with Romania-based producer Marius Alexandra. Wrapped in shiny electro-pop goodness, ‘Do We Love Us’ moves with kinetic confidence and catchy, simple melodism, here showcasing the American talent’s gift for simple yet effective lyricism and luscious melodies. The premise behind the whole piece is quite playful, as Michellar describes a fleeting attraction for a musical collaborator.
As she explains: “Working with collaborators, there is always a chance of getting too close because one’s vulnerabilities are open to accepting certain emotions. A lot of times, restraint needs to be practised, and the only way to release that emotion is through a song. So that is why I wrote this song.”
