A familiar face on our blog, Michellar appears to always be able to evoke the right mood. Drawing inspiration from the wonders, the Californian songwriter and creative pens heartfelt, vibrant songs in a variety of genres and influences, favouring meaningful lyricism over viral momentum. If past single ‘I Can’t Meet You’ was an uplifting disco-flavoured anthem, latest effort ‘September’ takes a gentler, slower approach.
Finding a worthy refuge in delicate, nuanced folk-pop, the record develops as a hopeful, nostalgic ballad, one that’s bittersweet, yet also packed with transformative energy. As if to say, something has just ended – summer, in this case – but there are golden days ahead, as life and the world continue pushing towards a bright future. Michellar’s melodies and songwriting are as hazy and dreamy as ever, reaching listeners with cathartic flair and calming energy.
Remembering the inspiration behind the song, the American songstress explains: “The Fall is a magical time of the year. It is when the light changes and the colors of our surroundings trigger a lot of reflection and introspection. As the air starts to chill, we also reminisce about the summer and all of its glorious moments in the warm sun. ‘September’ is a song that I wrote amidst colorful changes in my surroundings and the memories of all the summers I have had so far.”
