Michael Gabriel Travels in Time with Eclectic Cut ‘Heart & Soul’

A curious and far-reaching offering, ‘Heart & Soul’ wears many hats, yet it never quite lands on a specific artistic formula, showcasing Michael Gabriel’s deep eclecticism and musical nostalgia. You see, the record takes us back to the 80s and early 90s, touching both synthwave-inspired tones and classic house influences (especially in the vocal samples). Yet, somewhere along the way, one can spot hints of modernism – more specifically in the many trance-esque synth arpeggios – and a certain cosmic character, making the track rather hard to pin down, but also incredibly evocative and meaningful.

Hailing from Nova Scotia, CA, Michael Gabriel finds the perfect middle ground between groovy basslines and modulating soundscapes, somehow crafting a trait d’union between vintage timbres and modern flair. That is how ‘Heart & Soul’ ends up; a timeless banger that’s also hyper reflective and haunting, with a touch of euphoric thrown in for good measure. The Canadian talent does a good job on the production.

Formerly of Canadian band Man Without Hats, Gabriel is now embracing a brighter future as a solo artist, and if ‘Heart & Soul’ is anything to go by, we are in for some stunning records. Speaking about the single, Michael explains: “It’s danceable, but with a laidback elegance — perfect for late-night drives, rooftop lounges, or any moment that needs a touch of warmth and groove.”
