There’s something incredibly unique about ‘Early Man’. An eclectic, bold EP, the record delivers a cathartic stream of striking electronica and noisy post-punk, together with intricate, complex spoken words. The resulting listening experience is more akin to an ancient ritual, one that’s both gloomy and euphoric. Penned by Maybe Human and writer John Elkin, ‘Early Man’ features six tracks, with references ranging from decadent guitar-based instrumentals to glitchy synth matter.
Yet, it all exists in function of Elkin’s transformative and inquisitive words. As the American creatives explain: “Each track tells evocative stories of ancient people and animals, brought to life through emotive dialogue that captures the essence of survival, connection, and the untamed wild.” That’s not your everyday lyricism, and it perhaps won’t cater to everyone’s taste. Despite that, it’s worth sticking with ‘Early Man’, as gold is often found in the unknown. As such, obscure art might help you discover a new side of yourself.
For us, the EP provided a hypnotising moment of melancholia and nostalgia, a chance for us to break free from our daily constraints and jump into a parallel world, one that’s mythical and imaginative, yet quite metaphorical and wisdom-packed.
