Max Pope Unveils Darker, Brooding Jewel ‘borderline’

Emerging from South London’s rich cultural chaos, Max Pope has been fiercely navigating the music industry for the past few years, earning an illustrious series of collaborations (the likes of Mahalia and Tom Misch, among others), together with a sizeable audience, constantly hungry for Pope’s eclectic blend of psychedelia, dream pop and the occasional soulful gem. Recently, he’s returned with a striking new offering, ‘borderline’.

Decisively darker and hard-hitting, ‘borderline’ borrows from Pope’s usual haziness and whimsical qualities, only to then explore a liminal aural livery, a nuanced, texture-packed production that’s incredibly visionary and cathartic.

Speaking about the record, Max explains: “‘borderline’ is my first new music since Counting Sheep in 2022. It’s a bit darker, a bit rougher around the edges – and probably the most honest thing I’ve made.”
