We last wrote about MatAre in February, and at the time, we did sort of mention a possible upcoming album. Well, plans are now taking a concrete shape, so much so that the Atlanta-based musician is able to share with us the title of the record, ‘Extinction Burst’. Set out to be a rather chaotic and fierce offering, the album also contains a wonderfully sharp single, ‘Attach Your Memories’, which MatAre has gracefully dropped just yesterday.
As mentioned by Rosseau, ‘Attach Your Memories’ serves as “a palette cleanse”, a slice of uplifting and feel-good nostalgia built on vintage new wave tones and indie euphoria. We love it, especially because of its simplicity. The aural formula is minimal, yet working very well, with punchy drums co-existing with lush guitar riffs and dreamy textures. MatAre’s dynamic and cathartic vocals are a joy to listen to, fully wrapping listeners in bittersweet lyricism.
Part shoegaze and part dream-pop, ‘Attach Your Memories’ is a surprising release from the American creative, so much so that we are now getting curious about what’s going to be inside ‘Extinction Burst’. Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, MatAre explains: “‘Attach Your Memories’ is a song about longing and yearning for a connection with someone lost. Love and other emotions are compared to elemental forces and, most importantly, clouds, which represent nostalgia and the elusive nature of past love coming and going.”
