We first encountered Marcane back in 2023, celebrating ‘Blurring’ as “powerful and gripping”. We stand by our words. The Manchester-based creative has a knack for haunting, industrial rock goodness, embracing emo, metalcore and anything in between. There’s a great deal of noisy electronic tones and beats too, together with a certain cinematic doom that feels intense and hard-hitting. Whichever way you look at it, there’s no doubt that anything coming out of Marcane’s genius mind is a brooding, personal effort, a sharp and melancholic jewel built on introspective reckoning and purposeful lyrics.
Following up on the aforementioned single, Marcane has now returned to the global music landscape with a new offering, ‘Despite The Sharpest Knives’. Picking up exactly where he left off, the British singer and musician writes the most Marcane-esque song to date, a slice of unfiltered gloominess and eerie flair that confirms everything we have written about the project so far.
Delving deep into romantic vulnerability, ‘Despite The Sharpest Knives’ helps listeners immerse themselves in the deepest corners of human consciousness. This is all thanks to Marcane’s prophetic and anthemic vocals, here delivered with stirring charisma and a sense of lingering pain. Perhaps that’s why Marcane has been missing for over a year. He hasn’t lost his artistic edge; in fact, he’s got better. Looking forward to seeing what comes next for him – perhaps an EP?…
