Mandy Slate Returns with Personal, Vibrant EP ‘Home’

While we have written about Mandy Slate in the past, the American songstress today appears in her best artistic shape ever, unveiling a wondrous and vibrant EP that’s a joy to listen to. Packed with malleable, relatable and contemporary pop goodness, ‘Home’ collects fragments of honest storytelling, romantic allure and observant lyricism, all emerging from Slate’s longstanding songwriting commitment. You see, the Arizona-based creative has been quietly amassing a series of well-received singles within the past few years; now, she’s looking ahead, gearing up for the release of her long-awaited album ‘Science Fiction’.

The overarching theme over the EP and upcoming album is quite unique, with Mandy embracing a sort of video game-driven, horror-esque sci-fi imagery in her lyrics and music videos. Effectively, she’s blending a nerd-lenient persona with elegant, luscious popstar flair. The best of both worlds, although the keen listener shouldn’t overthink the project too much. Simply, let yourself be inspired by its music. ‘Home’ is the perfect starting point for that, with the title track and opener providing a short burst of leftfield goodness.

Delving deeper into the personal meaning behind the record, Slate indulges in escapism and fantasy “to make the best of fluctuating mental health and loneliness after coming out as queer”. There are many layers to ‘Home’, from its luscious external livery to its deeper ties to Mandy’s personal life. Whichever way you look at it, the EP is pop at its best. Stay tuned for the album!
