Maddisun Releases Sophomore Album ‘Home Is Where The Music Is’

We appreciate following artists in their artistic journeys. Observing them jumping from release to release, steadily improving their sound and reaching a higher level of creative awareness. That’s exactly the case with Maddisun, Canadian songstress whose music has made it on our pages quite a few times in the past. Now, she’s returning with what is perhaps her greatest achievement to date, a sophomore album that’s eclectic and charismatic, showcasing the musical maturity of the British Columbia-based talent.

Titled ‘Home Is Where The Music Is’, the album widens the scope of Maddisun’s musical output. While still containing traces of her signature folk and country style, the record also champions slightly modern styles, exploring electronica and pop in order to find a new and exciting musical formula. If previous single ‘Don’t Say No’ was anything to go by, we can confidently say she found that formula, and it’s a winning one.

Jumping into ‘Home Is Where The Music Is’, we are instantly met with ‘Running’, an acoustic-based, slow-tempo gem blending country feels with more sleazy, soulful vocals. ‘Fading’ and ‘Big Wave’ instead play the feel-good role: bubbly, hopeful and enchanting songs where we can truly appreciate the magnitude of Maddisun’s vocals: a classic tone, not afraid to step out the beaten path.

‘Too Long’ takes the shape of a poignant ballad, stripping it down to just piano and vocals. What more could you ask for? ‘On The Outside’ employs acoustic guitars for an exciting country number, offering a glimpse of the ‘old-style’ Maddisun. Although, it still feels incredibly relevant. While ‘True Me’ and ‘Right’ continue in the same direction, ‘Glory Day (Over and Over)’ closes the album in mesmerising fashion, by offering a wonderful ballad drenched in electronic soundscapes, providing the perfect last chapter of a life-changing book.

Produced by the Los Angeles-based PSY Sound team of Nick Noto and Chloe Chaidez, ‘Home Is Where The Music Is’ is a true jewel, a record to be enjoyed in full while looking for your inner artistic identity. As Maddisun explains: “As an artist, you have to want discovery and recognition more than blood, and I do. These songs are about being yourself and expressing that to the universe, taking chances, wearing your heart on your sleeve, and being fearless. That’s home. That’s where my music is.”
