Maddison Kate Delivers Featherlight Treasure ‘A Truth’

Often, simplicity pays off. ‘A Truth’ is the strongest evidence of that. Penned by Australian songstress Maddison Kate, the record is a delicate yet playful acoustic gem, further enriched by a series of indie-folk textures and poised orchestral elegance. The sonic formula is contained and relatable, letting Kate’s cathartic vocals and personal storytelling capture the listener’s attention. What started as a fingerpicking marvel ended up being a wholesome jewel, part country and part folk.

Maddison is always in the driving seat, guiding the record with a tongue-in-cheek, fiery take on a romantic breakup. It’s incredible how the Brisbane-based creative manages to sound both vulnerable and empowered at the same time; perhaps that’s the key, letting emotions flow freely without losing control of them. Such a velvety, glossy tone is one of Kate’s biggest assets, vocals capable of inhabiting a thousand melodies. Feathery drums and a warm piano help the record stand out further.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the piece, Kate explains: “‘A Truth’ is a fiery breakup song told from an unfiltered, sassy perspective”. The push and pull between striking lyricism and soothing instrumental delineates the charming dualism that’s ever-present in the song. Overall, a wonderful effort.
