How can such a powerful alt-rock/melodic metal anthem sound so fierce and so elegant at the same time? Penned by international outfit Lode Star, ‘The Great Beyond’ is both hypnotising and hard-hitting, with a slow-moving, potent metal production crowned by cathartic female vocals, connecting with the listeners on a deeper level. If verses are rather relatable and approachable, choruses explode in true metal euphoria, with striking scream vocals that add a punch of energy and charisma to an already electrifying formula.
Active between Canada and Ireland, Lode Star sees musician and producer Jensen Rodolfo team up with Irish powerhouse vocalist Kate Glock, also co-producing and taking care of synth duties. Initially coming together thanks to a professional collaboration, the two quickly realised their shared interests and committed to an original project, spreading Lode Star’s name far and wide into the ether.
Now working on an upcoming album, the talented pair seems to get more and more comfortable with a more eclectic sonic imprint, fully exploring their unique creativity. Speaking about the lyricism behind ‘The Great Beyond’, Lode Star explain: “The story is very deep, it’s surreal, and we’re sure everyone’s thought about this topic at least once: what is it like when you’re dead? The character in the song is caught in the moment he realises he’s dead, and he’s going through all sorts of emotions that are associated with that realisation.”
