We are certainly familiar with Leanne Wilkins. The Seattle-based songstress has been dropping hints of her work for a while, as previous single ‘Alt-Reality’ clearly showcased. Well, the time has come: ‘The Art of Letting Go’ is out today, whispering Wilkins’ heightened introspection and meaningful experiences to any keen listeners. The title is truly fitting; a challenging, honest record, the album sees Leanne scrambling her references and style, allowing her songwriting to wander in unexpected territories and unfamiliar genres.
This was a concrete attempt at resetting her creativity and inspirations, as she so boldly explains: “The hardest part was re-learning how to get out of my own way, Leanne says. My best creations have always come from an egoless state when I’m tapped into the ‘creative force,’ something bigger than me. When I was in songwriting mode, I meditated every morning to help me turn off my mind and tap into the creative flow.”
Together with her band The Weathered, Wilkins pens elegant, charming nuggets of poignancy and hopeful buoyancy, always championing the wholesome, acoustic sound they are known for. Lastly, Leanne’s vocals are always a treat, incredibly evocative and majestic. ‘The Art of Letting Go’ is a deserving record, one that’s going to require time and understanding to be digested properly. Don’t rush it.
