Last Relapse Return After Long Hiatus with Vibrant, Immersive EP

It’s been a productive year from a reunion standpoint. There’s been a surprising amount of bands emerging from year-long hiatuses, returning with a newly found outlook on music. We wonder what might spark such a return? Perhaps the chaotic nature of global society calls for artistic expression and collective catharsis, or maybe it’s just down to luck and chance. For Atlanta-based indie outfit Last Relapse, it was mainly down to the sudden realisation that thirteen years had passed since they ‘paused’ the project.

Safe to say, the American group had grown apart on unique and different paths by that point. Yet, the willingness to get together in a rehearsal room was a driving force, allowing Last Relapse to reconnect with their roots, uncovering old material that was just begging to be finished. ‘EP’ is the evidence of that: collecting five relatable and evocative indie pieces, the record threads a fine line between the early noughties and the contemporary, with Last Relapse not having forgotten the musical charisma that once made them a cult and popular discovery.

Delving deeper behind the EP, Last Relapse explain: “It already carried everything we wanted to say about who we were back
then. Finishing it after all this time gave it a
new weight, like finally closing a chapter we didn’t realise was still
open. There have been songs that lived in my head for over a
decade, melodies and fragments that haunt my brain until we finally
finish and release them. This EP is about setting those ghosts free
and is the next step for us to continue what we started.”
