Larry Karpenko Unveils Latest Effort ‘The River’

The keen reader might recall Larry Karpenko. In fact, we wrote about the talented American troubadour not long ago, describing ‘Heart Calls Love’ as “a vibrant, three-dimensional image stemming directly from Karpenko’s imaginative artistry”. We stand by our words: Larry’s songwriting flair, while relatable and digestible, is also rather unique, with honey-like, smooth melodies layered over playfully complex pop and folk arrangements.

‘The River’ is Karpenko’s follow-up single, a slice of authenticity and cathartic energy delivered with immense softness and elegance by the American songster. The vibe is ceremonious and luscious, steeped in religious flair and nostalgic lyricism. Written as a typical church-esque anthem, the track blends Larry’s original character with the old familiar hymn “Shall We Gather at the River”, effectively giving ‘The River’ two different planes of existence. The first being Karpenko’s memories, the second being its divine-oriented, meaningful outlook.

As the Loma Linda-based creative explains: “It was inspired by my time at a boarding high school where the Shenandoah River runs through the edge of campus. ‘The River’ is imagery of a safe space, security, and peace that is healing and refreshing. It represented a deep desire to connect with a divine creator God to find human strength and stability.”
