Upon hearing ‘Wanna Dance’, we couldn’t in fact refrain from… dancing. You see, the record is incredibly groovy and infectious, a slice of retro-flavoured house euphoria that’s engaging and uplifting. In fact, there’s a certain jackin’ house character in it, taking us back to house music’s golden era in the late 80s and early 90s, as well as the sample craze in the early ‘2000. There’s a bit of everything in it, a quality that speaks volumes about Lady Fingaz’s heightened artistry.
She doesn’t overproduce the track, instead embracing a functional minimalism that makes the track quirky and playful. Choosing her sample and synth tones carefully, she manages to pen a cohesive piece, one that we suspect will find a great amount of success on the dancefloor. Hailing from the US, the talented DJ and producer has already found a sizeable audience for herself, especially thanks to her latest full-length release ‘Cosmic Casa’.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Wanna Dance’, Lady Fingaz explains: “Dance is a universal language. With this track, I wanted to create a space where people feel free—free to express, free to let go, free to just be. ‘Wanna Dance’ is about that pure, unfiltered joy of movement.” Well, that’s exactly what she did, releasing a nugget of joy and carefree escapism into an overly gloomy world.
